Blogmas Day 4- Christmas Traditions
Today's post I am going to be talking about some of my favorite Christmas traditions!
I feel like Christmas is the ultimate time of the year that families have traditions, and I LOVE hearing about what other people do, no matter how weird they are.
Our top tradition this time of the year is actually one that we are talking about discontinuing in the next few years. Every December, my husband's side of the family gets together and goes Christmas Tree "Hunting" for my in-laws tree. My MIL gets the permits months in advance, we all pile into three trucks, and we drive out into the wilderness around Frenchman's Lake and pick a tree. It's an all day affair because once we get the tree that looks the perfect size outside among giants, it looks either too small or too big and definitely a little on the bare side. My MIL, SIL, and I usually spend the evening decorating and we have an easy crock pot dinner.
The reason why we've considered stopping is because we tend to only have time really early in December and by the time Christmas comes around, the tree looks super dead.
Another smaller tradition my husband and I have is getting a new ornament every year. We each pick out a new one for each of us, they usually are from the same place so they somewhat match. I will go more into our picks in my favorite ornament post later on this week.
This one is one of my favorites we picked out over the years.
I think a pretty normal tradition is sending out Christmas cards. I've been doing Christmas cards since high school. I used to go to the dollar store with my friend and get cards and candy canes and hand them out to all my friends in between classes. Now as an adult I send them to family members and friends.
Another tradition, and this one is specifically to me, but I always have to do something crafty, otherwise it doesn't feel like the holiday spirit. This year I decided to make my own gingerbread house by making the gingerbread and icing, etc.
The royal frosting was harder than I imagined and I wish I had made some cream cheese frosting to decorating with. Even though it's not Christmas, we have already started to eat this bad boy.
What are some of your Christmas traditions? Let me know in the comments below!
