Friday Fright vol. I ep. I

Hello guys and ghouls!
October begins the meat of my favorite time of the year, holiday season. I would argue the last two years, Halloween has surpassed Christmas as my favorite holiday of the year.
There is something about the creep factor in October, combined with the change of weather, super fun harvest activities, and abundance of spirit that really just makes my heart sing.

I am a person who generally has no problem watching horror films. I will go to the theater to watch them, I will re-watch some of the films that scared the pants off me the first time. I don't dislike them, I don't love them either, it's hard to say I enjoy them given the context of the film.

That being said, I have decided this year to do a weekly post called Friday Fright. Each Friday, I will post a review of some scary/horror movies I watched through the week, with a pretty simple rating system.
Since I know not everyone enjoys scary movies, I will giving each movie a multi-level rating system to hopefully add some perspective.

All movies are labeled horror or thriller. All of these movies I have no seen before.

 Scare Level: ðŸ˜±ðŸ˜±ðŸ˜±ðŸ˜±ðŸ˜±

So, lets get started!

Review:
First and foremost, if you do not think too hard about the technicalities of this movie, it is entertaining. I think the concept is awesome and the actors did a great job in utilizing emotion despite not having the aid of their voice. The simplicity in it is what kind of makes it work, however there are too many questions left unanswered to full immerse yourself.
First and foremost, what prompted these creatures isn't really addressed. We understand that they are attracted to sound, but where they came from is a mystery. There was a lot of "you idiots" moments for me throughout. Like they could have prepped a little bit better. There was also what felt like inconsistency throughout the movie. Why would you use a tractor, which is loud, if it would attract the monsters to you to kill you? Are they non-operative from before this all started happening? Why did you get pregnant, when obviously babies are loud?
There were some blatantly broken parts too, like the random guy in the woods who's wife is shredded and then he commits suicide right then and there. Aside from instilling a little more fear, there wasn't finesse to the scene. Regan leaving her mother alone to go visit her sisters grave was obvious as well, as a vehicle to separate the kids, but again lacked finesse.
Over all, I liked the movie, it just wasn't extremely scary because the cadence kind of pulled me out of the ambiance.

Jigsaw
Directed by Michael Spierig & Peter Spierig
Released 2017

Review:
Really if you have seen the first few at this point, you know to expect gore. You also know Jigsaw plays a series of games and puzzles that eliminates those unfortunate enough to be his opponent. The original Saw is by far my favorite and when it originally came out, it really spooked me.
The plot is just regurgitated from other parts of Saw, mixing crooked cops with a deranged mind. The puzzles are clever, however none of them seem as clever as Saw II. I think the movies at this point are just released for those who are really into gore and horror. Not to exactly entice fear.

Review:
Haunted houses and possession are my two favorite times of horror movies. My first horror movie was House on Haunted Hill which is still my all-time favorite horror movie, The Amityville Horror is a pretty close second.
That being said, this was right up my alley. I watched it in daylight and it freaked me out. I loved that the setting was a few decades ago, the paranormal hunters was also cool. The Warrens were definitely my favorite parts of the movie, their relationship and dynamic was perfect. The pacing, the story, the amount of creep is perfect.
Watching the Jenna Marbles compilation before seeing this movie did not help though. Recognizing some scenes from the video made me laugh more than it should have.

Those are this weeks videos. If you guys have requests for me to watch a certain movie, let me know in the comments below.
