NANOWRIMO- Setting
Since it's National Novel Writing Month, I wanted to celebrate by posting about some of the elements of a novel I've been casually writing. There is currently no name and it's one of two stories I'm working on, though I do refer to it as Vesta's story because there is a character within this series that I have already considered doing a spin-off for.
Now, I'm not a hardcore writer, though I have been having a lot of fun finding time to express myself creatively. Do I expect to publish anything anytime soon? Hell no. Do I ever? Maybe, who knows. However I've grown really attached to these characters and I wanted to share a little bit about them with you.
The story is what I'd consider a New Adult/ Adult Fantasy. It involves a lot of secondary greek mythology characters, such as Ceto and Medusa. There is romance, but there is also a lot of R rated scenes due to the nature of a few of the characters. In it's raw form, I wanted to keep even the racey or gorey parts true to the nature of the creature.
The easiest way to tackle explaining this story would be to start with setting. There are some parallel universes going on in here, so it does require some explaining.

Veritas: Latin: Truth
As the meaning of the name suggests, this is the real world. To give you a general idea of how the universe and cosmos fall into this story, it's essentially if I were writing a greek epoc in present day. We have our planet with all of it's countries and cities as they are now. Although this is our current world, mythological creatures are present here. For instance our main character is sent to Veritas to find and dispatch mythical characters or bring them back to Mythos.
Mythos: Latin: Myths
As I mentioned before, there are a lot of mythological characters involved in this story. Our main character can travel back and forth between Vertias and Mythos as she is dispatched by her master. Mythos acts as a parallel to a lot of locations already on Veritas's map. Athens happens to still be the capital of Mythos, due to it's deep roots in mythology. Cairo would also be another major city as well. These two cities have complete parallel structures though, as if another city hung invisible over the current city that sits on our map. Not all cities have parallels though, New York has pockets of Mythos but not a full parallel.
Access between Veritas and Mythos is limited and policed. Vesta, our main character, is summoned by the Book of Shadows to travel through the two worlds as she seeks out monsters, Gods, and murderers to become her victims.

That is all I really have to write about today without spoiling too much for the future. I'm hoping to do a few more posts like this through November to let you guys know about the story I'm writing and to inspire me to pick it back up. It's been a few months since I've opened the pages to Vesta's story, but I'm always looking forward to finding my way back to her.
Are you guys participating in NaNoWriMo? Let me know below!
