NANOWRIMO- Creatures

Today's NANOWRIMO's post I'm going to go over some of the creatures I've used in the novel I've been writing.

The creatures within this story can be found in either Mythos or Veritas though I will indicate which one prefers which world. In their description, I try to list common traits, life span, and whether they can be considered to live among civilization or if they are prone to uncivilized locations.

Succubi: Strictly female, civilized. Mortal with a longer than average lifespan once matured.
In the universe I've built, Succubi are typically known as being mistress of Lords and Ladies, some are slaves within courts or institutions, some work in taverns or as merchants. In Veritas they can be found in very obvious professions; such as strippers or brothels; though they are far less common among "Mortals". Very few are employed into mercenaries, assassins, or contract killers.
Succubi are often found in packs of at least 5. This is because their nature is to rear children as a group rather than individually. Once a succubus child matures(usually around 13), they are then sold into service. In Athens there is a large slave auction circuit where each individual is assessed for worth and then tiered appropriately.

Darkin: Either gender, civilized, immortal.
Darkins are often mistaken for ghosts, vampires, spirits, or the devil himself. They are not born, they are created through the Underworld. Often described in legends as mercenaries of Hades, Darkins have been blessed by shadow and darkness. They can manipulate the shadows, use the darkness to veil themselves, and be as stealthy as a whisper. Since Hades' downfall, the population of Darkins has reduced greatly and most can be found as contract killers for Lords and Ladies.

Sphynx: Strictly male, civilized. Mortal.
Sphynx are all pansexual creatures that physically fit the description of a traditional sphynx, though all carry their own unique physical characteristics. Often very social, though also known as being condescending, Sphynx treasure knowledge above all else. The find best company with the original Muses from Greek mythology which are depicted as women.
They live in Odet, which rests in the Rila Mountains of Bulgaria in Veritas. Sphynx never leave their home to visit Veritas but occasionally travel freely through Mythos. Though Odet is in Veritas, it is not visible to those who are not invited or have not previously visited.
Though technically mortal, Sphynx have a reincarnated life span, similar to a pheonix. There are only 9, all of which are employed in the Divine Nine. The Divine Nine are record keepers, historians and librarians. They live within the Rila Mountains with the fabled muses as company. As one Sphynx dies his body spontaneously combust to leave behind an egg which the new Sphynx is born from. All knowledge is retained from the previous Sphynx to continue the cycle of being the worlds historians.

Gorgons: Strictly female, civilized and uncivilized. Mortal.
Gorgons are blind women with hair made of vipers, pale bluish skin, and sharp, razor teeth. They are considered to be clairvoyant, though their predictions cannot be confirmed due to the fickle-ness of the actions leading to the event.
There are tribes of gorgons that live uncivilized among the oceans across Mythos, very few in Veritas. These are feral creatures that prey on small rodents, birds, and mammals. They prefer the dryer climate of the middle east and northern Africa.
Civilized gorgons are usually adopted into the Divine Eyes which is a religious group dedicated to the fates of ancient mythology. They believe that the number 3 is holy, along with owls.

Orcs: Male, I suppose they can be considered civilized. Mortal
Smaller than a Giant but larger than a man, orcs have grey-ish skin and robust builds. They are most often found employed as handi-men, terrible hitmen, or slaves. They tend to stick to groups, however Orcs can be found in solidarity as well.

As I keep building this world I'm sure many more monsters will become popular. Some others I can think of off the top of my head are the mention of vampires, minotaurs, and cherubs.
