Top 5 Wednesday!

I've been doing the Top 5 Wednesday posts on Twitter since the beginning of June.
Since I found myself wanting to talk about these topics more than the character count on Twitter allows, I'm going to bring these topics to my blog as well for the month of July to determine if it will be permanently here.

Today's Top 5 topic is:
Best Books You've read so far in 2018
I will be doing a recap of all the books I've read so far next week. Although these lists seem similar, that one has EVERYTHING I've read, including re-reads with recaps on my favorite book read so far each month.

1. Illuminae- I've already talked about the entire series in a previous blog post. This book, and just this one has been my top favorite so far for 2018. Out of the entire series it is also my favorite. I love the unexpected twists and the style of writing that Jay and Amie created. Kady being tricked by AIDAN still stands out in my mind so much even after reading it back in April. The betrayal and reflection on morality and love that came out of Kady sacrificing herself was amazing.

2. Six of Crows- I technically listened to this book and although I do love it, I feel like I missed parts of it from the audiobook. I'm hoping to pick up a physical copy, specifically those beautiful sprayed edges, and re-read SoC before moving to the sequel. Overall this story was great, I love the team of unexpected people ganging together to complete a mission.I may also have heart eyes for Mr. Breker.

3. Percy Jackson & The Sea of Monsters- I've been drawing out this series because I know if I let myself, I will in fact devour it completely. Now, the first thing to know about me as a reader, movie watcher, or TV series consumer... I have a HUGE soft spot for male characters that fit the following: elderly, handicapped, or Mr. Dark and Handsome. Now this book has one of those in my favorite character, Tyson. I legitimately almost cried when Percy reached the Cyclops holding Grover and Tyson was frolicking with his little sheep friends. Aside from Tyson being my cinnamon roll of life, I also love seeing Percy and Annabeth's adventures. I don't care to ship them, I think regardless of what happens they have a great friendship. Also, Greek mythology is life.

4. Nevernight- I initially tried listening to this book via audible in January and couldn't get passed the desert scene. Then I told myself, maybe this is a book I should physically read instead. Again, I had the same issue with the desert scene (A.k.a. the first 100 pages) and I almost thought, man... I don't understand the hype.
Luckily, I kept going. The first few chapters where we alternate between Mia killing and screwing a man were utterly epic. Things slow down as she travels to the school for killers but once she finally makes it into the mountain the story plays out in a beautiful YA fantasy novel. I will admit though, the story did get a little predictable. I do look forward to Godsgrave though, I'd love to see how Mr. Kindly and Eclispe build their friendship. /s ;D

5. Outlander- This is a book I don't talk about often because I have a like/dislike relationship with it. I would like to start off by stating yes Jamie Fraser is the most steamy Scotsman to ever enter literature. I LOVE Clare as a female character, and that doesn't always happen. Although I am nothing like her, I feel like she was written in a relate-able way that made me genuinely concerned for her throughout the novel. Don't get me wrong though, if she had ditched Jamie I would have hated her for the rest of time.
As far as the story goes, at this time I don't plan on continuing the series but in the future potentially. Time travel doesn't tickle my fancy and I've read enough of the synopsis of the following books to know it's in quite a few of them.

Thanks for letting me gab on about these books. If you'd ever like to keep up on these Top 5 Wednesday posts without me gabbing on just follow me on Twitter for the quick and dirty version.
